GEORGES PHILIBERT CHARLES MARONIEZ [1865-1933] painted mainly genre scenes and landscapes, he gained recognition as a marine painter. At the age of 22, he appeared at the Paris Salon, exhibiting views from the coast of Brittany and Holland. In developing his style, he drew on Dutch genre painting and filled his canvases with realistic staffage. He won numerous honors and awards, including a third-class medal in 1905 and a second-class medal in 1906. His works can be seen in museums in Lille, Valenciennes, Cambrai and Boulogne.
