lithograph, paper, 42 x 29 cm
itography, paper, 42 x 29 cm in light original passe - partout (60 x 45 cm made in the 19th century by the museum office "Albertina Facsymiles" in Vienna; signed l.g. bound monogram "AD" and date. "1521" reflected on the plate under an inscription personally written by Durer; a unique print from the only exceptional edition of Durer's prints published at the end of the 19th century.
Durer made portraits of St. Jerome with great frequency, the most famous of which is an oil from 1521 - a portrait with an open book and a skull (attributes of St. Jerome) - for which Durer first made a drawing. The original drawing is in the collection of the Albertina Museum in Vienna. The museum made the lithograph that is the subject of this auction.
