Lot description Show orginal version

lithograph, paper, 42 x 32 cm in light of the original passe - partout (60 x 45 cm); made in the 19th century by the museum office "Albertina Facsymiles" in Vienna; a unique print from the only unique edition of Durer's prints published at the end of the 19th century.

Durer wrote:"Whatbeautyis, I do not know. True art is in nature; he whocanextractitfromnature possessesit. The moreyour work conforms to life, the better it is. Do notimagine thatyoucouldcreatesomething betterthan what Godhas created. " Durer's watercolordepicted a realistic rendering of each plant individually, blade by blade, leaf by leaf. They all group together to form a cluster shown from a close perspective. This scale allows us to feel the structure of a clump of grass so ordinary that, for this reason, it goes almost unnoticed on a daily basis.
