Thoroughly educated in the academies of St. Petersburg, Paris and Munich, the painter and illustrator Stanislaw Bohusz-Siestrzeńcewicz (1869 - 1927) was associated with his native Vilnius and the Vilnius region. A skilled illustrator and insightful observer, he was the author of many genre scenes from the Borderlands of the Republic. In 1912 he publishes a portfolio of illustrations entitled. "Drawings by the pen of Stanislaw Bohusz Siestrzencewicz," in which he captures the folklore of these lands and the people who inhabit them. Drawn with a quick line, sometimes sketchy genre scenes, they accurately reflect the character of places and events enriching them with the anecdote they carry. A participant in many exhibitions, he is constantly present as an illustrator in the pages of "Tygodnik Ilustrowany".
