High quality blade with hozon type certificate issued by NBTHK. It has a deciphered signature on the nakago (the smith's name was Sadamune). On the nakago is the inscription , "sei sei sai Sadamune" - meaning "made by Sadamune". There is also a date: the year of the horse, October, the 3rd year of Meiji - that is, it is 1870.
Most likely, the sword took part in the Satsuma rebellion. On this rebellion was based the plot of a very well-known and popular film in Poland - , "The Last Samurai". It is in perfect condition. The grinding was done by a very good grinder. Rinzo Nagashi made the grind - a contemporary grinder working with the Metropolitan Museum in Boston. It is a fairly wide shinogi zukuri type blade, with a chu kissaki type dagger, and a komidare hamon. Frame(koshirae): with a flag motif. Fuchi and kashira of forged and tempered metal. Tsuba full with mantis motif, with gold applications. Menuki with motif of a horse at a gallop. Original samegawa, heavily patinated. Saya with earthy texture. Kojiri brass, koiguchi made of buffalo horn, same as kurikata, sageo silk ribbon.
