It has a military punch on the nakago (bolt), which indicates that it was a sword used during World War II. The sword has two different sheaths (koshirae) - one traditional, the other gunto type. The blade is forged by hand, not by machine. The blade is of the gendaito type.
Very distinct hamon. It's a typical shinogi zukuri blade, without yokote, but it's possible that it's a matter of repolishing. There are minor traces of corrosion on the blade. It is in overall very good condition.
Traditional binding - katana type koshirae.
Simple tsuba, round, forged, iron with a fine decorative motif in the form of cut holes - tsugashi type ornament. Fuchi and kashira with floral motif and gilding. Copper plated and patinated. The braid is original from the period. Menuki with ebi (shrimp) motif. The saya is covered in matte black lacquer with a crimp under the left hand (called kizami) and a crimp at the end. Where the crimp is, there is a beautiful, shiny lacquer. Simple cotton sageo band, trims (kurikata, koiguchi and kojiri) made of buffalo horn.
Both fixtures are fixed with a single peg.
The motif of all fittings is a chrysanthemum.
Military binding - gunto type koshirae
In very good condition, it is covered with original paint, the fittings are also original. The sword has a working lock-block. There is a small inscription on the sayi - probably an inventory number from a military store.
The scabbard, as in most gunto swords, is metal, khaki in color.
