oil/canvas, dimensions 65x85 cm, signature partially legible l. d. "A. C. .... 09", early 20th century.
Painted in a Post-Impressionist manner, a vast sunny landscape with olive trees along a road leading to a town hidden at the foot of the hills with white houses with red roofs visible in the distance. A range of white hills, the Chaine des Alpilles, gently descends toward a valley, which we follow to Provence's most famous small picturesque ports and towns. We are in the heart of it - among the vineyards and olive groves, and the landscapes here have been and continue to be an inspiration for many artists - from van Gogh to all the French, and not only, Impressionists, who, leaving their studios for the open air, it was here that they most powerfully experienced the beauty of nature. A painting of great decorative value, painted with proficiency in both composition and formal solutions, worth further study in the search for the work's authorship.
