Author Juliusz Slabiak (1917 - 1973) is mainly known for his compositions with horses. The painter acquired his skills in the studios of Wojciech and Jerzy Kossak. Working with them, he created sketches and sub-paintings for the eagerly purchased works of both - thus becoming one of the members of this Kossak "factory" of art, which gave him a solid workshop in both compositional and painting matters. In time, he also began to paint his own signature works inspired by the Kossaks' work, as well as urban vedutas of characteristic places and buildings in Cracow, which were close to his heart.
