The portrayed person is shown in bust. Printed underneath the photo: "Leonard & Co in Warsaw". Photo pasted on original cardboard backing with gilded edges. On the back an advertising vignette of the establishment printed: "Artistic and photographic establishment Leonard & Co. d. M. Fajans. Krakowskie Przedmieście 52 in Warsaw" and a pencil identification inscription: "Wiktor Feliks Szokalski (1811-1891) doctor-ophthalmologist, insurrection 1831, then in exile, doctor of the Batignol school in Paris, chief doctor of the Ophthalmic Inst., professor of S.G.H. and member of AU". Very good condition.
Leonard & Co - photographic establishment operating in Warsaw in premises at 52/58 Krakowskie Przedmieście St. He took over the atelier after Maksymilian Fajans and operated from about 1884 to probably 1896. He dealt mainly with portrait photography. In 1885, at the Industrial and Agricultural Exhibition in Warsaw, he was awarded a silver medal.
