General's handwriting in French and with his autograph. Letter of the famous Dezyder Chłapowski (1790-1879) Napoleonic officer, general in the November Uprising, Commander-in-Chief in Lithuania in 1831. Letter recommending Major [Tadeusz?] Krajewski cavalry officer described as full of bravado and courage to General Caramon [?] of the artillery corps in Paris. The letter was written after Klapowski had already crossed the border in Lithuania into Prussia and just before he was arrested by Prussian authorities for participation in the uprising. Officers were going into exile and the general issued them letters of recommendation. A memento of a famous officer of the Napoleonic era and the November Uprising, a distinguished landowner in Greater Poland who introduced modern farming style and agricultural machinery.
