Another masterful satire by the author on turn-of-the-century British society and bourgeois mentality. This time we look under the roof of the family home, where Dombi's selfish father is in charge. The man runs a prosperous shipping company and is frustrated as hell by the lack of a son to succeed him. In his viciousness, he complicates family relations and remains insensitive to his daughter's love. In the background is a broader landscape of opportunistic social relations and ruthless merchant relations. Based on the novel, the British TV series "Dombey and Son" was made in 1964.
