ABOUT THE FIVE ORDERS IN ARCHITECTURE
Jacomo Barozzi da Vignola - (1507-1573) - The Principle of Five Orders in Architecture (1562): Vignola put the issue of the five orders in architecture extremely succinctly and clearly, depicting the essential elements of architecture in thirty-odd tables accompanied by brief explanations and directions. The treatise mainly consists of precise drawings and brief descriptions of the architectural orders, as well as several examples of portals and wall compositions. The drawings of the orders show all the elements, delineated by modules and modular parts, according to the principles of geometry. The architect showed how to draw heads, volutes, entasis, architraves, friezes or cornices with the help of a compass and ruler. His work strongly influenced not only modern architecture but, among others, the architecture of Socialist Realism.
