Leipzig edition of the complete works of Lucius Caecilius Firmianus Lactantius (b. ca. 250, d. 330) - Christian writer and apologist and rhetor. Lactantius' most important works include: Divinae Institutiones (Foundations of Divine Doctrine) written in 304-313, De ave Phoenice (On the Phoenix Bird), De ira Dei (On the Wrath of God) and De mortibus persecutorum (On the Death of Persecutors ) from around 314. - A lampoon on Roman emperors - persecutors of Christians. These are among the most important cultural texts of Christian antiquity from the Roman Empire. The text in Latin, edited and with a preface byJohann Georg Walch (1693-1775), a German Evangelical theologian and lexicographer. Note: At the beginning is a dedication dated September 29, 1713 by Walch to Frederick Augustus I, Duke of Saxony, or King Augustus II the Strong of Poland.
