Historical epic by the Roman poet Marcus Annaeus Lucanus (39-65 A.D.) in 10 books, concerning the civil war between Pompey and Caesar, ending in defeat at Pharsalos in 48 B.C.A.D. In addition to the title Farsalia, the manuscripts also convey the alternative title Bellum civile ("Civil War"). At the beginning of the work there is an introduction and explanatory notes to the text. The work was published in the famous outhouse of theZweibrücken Publishing Society [Latin: Bipontum, French: Deux-Ponts]), which since 1779 has published more than 50 of the most famous classical Greek and Latin texts. Includes a beautiful mini engraving on the title page relating to the contents of the epic. Text in Latin.
Period binding, half leather in poor condition with rubbing and minor losses, especially at the edges and spine, which was embossed and gilded with the title; interior in average condition, occasionally stains but dry; numerous annotations in the text and on the pre-title page; in addition, on the front pastedown an ex-libris printed "Fr. Enderlin"; overall average condition.
