Biography
Jerzy Potrzebowski was a Polish painter whose work referred to the stylistics of 19th century realist painting. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in 1950 with a degree in painting. Since 1956, he was a member of the nationwide "Zachęta" group, which brought together artists-artists with conservative views opposed to the avant-garde of the time, as well as Impressionism, among others.Potrzebowski 's art consists primarily of atmospheric landscapes, portraits, flowers, genre and battle scenes. The artist was largely inspired by literature. Many of his works are scenes from Sienkiewicz's Trilogy and the "Enchanted Carriage" cycle of poetry. Four years before the artist's death, his largest solo exhibition, organized by the Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Krakow, took place.
