Jean-Pierre Norblin de la Gourdaine (born 1745 in France, in Misy-sur-Yonne, Champagne - died 1830 in Paris) - French painter, engraver and draughtsman - was one of the most important artists active in Poland at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. He was educated in Paris, taking lessons from Francesco Casanova and Jacques-Philippe Caresme. In 1769 he entered the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture, and a year later also began studying at the École royale des élèves protégés. In 1774, he arrived in Poland, where he continuedthe French Rococo tradition, being the first and perhaps the only artist painting fêtes galantes compositions at the time. The artist also left behind a significant graphic legacy. He was an excellent engraver, the bulk of his work being etchings. Norblin's privileged place in the history of Polish art was guaranteed by his paintings and drawings of a historical nature.
