Painter and printmaker; landscape painter known as the "painter of the Karkonosze." He studied at the Kunstschule in Breslau under Carl Ernst Morgenstern. Together with the professor and a group of colleagues, he went on plein-air painting trips. He continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruche under Carlos Grethe and Victor Weishaupt. He traveled to the North Sea and visited a well-known artists' colony on the island of Sylt. After returning to Silesia, in 1898-1909 he spent a lot of time in the mountains, living in the winter in the Karkonosze chalets. For a while he lived in Trzebnica, and in 1917 settled in Szklarka. He was a co-founder of the Association of Silesian Artists (1908) and the St. Luke's Association in Szklarska Poreba (1922). He traveled to Italy (1922); from 1932-1945 he lived in the former home of his teacher C. E. Morgenstern in Wilcza Poręba near Karpacz. Later he moved to Bamberg. He painted landscapes of the visited countries and surroundings, especially views of the Sudetes and the Karkonosze, views of Szrenica and the Snowy Kells, landscapes of the Sudeten foothills, areas of Silesia.
