Bronzed metal composition; height 41 cm; and 42 cm.
France, cast early 20th century.
A pair of steeds tamed by grooms: a reduction of the well-known monumental marble sculptures originally made for the royal palace in Marly and later moved to Paris in 1794 to the Place de la Concorde (now placed in the Louvre and replaced by copies in the Place de la Concorde).
The sculptures on display are set on arched bases, maintained in the spirit of geometric Art Nouveau.
