On pre-title page, handwritten dedication by Zofia Stryjeńska in French to Mr. Cuillette ("friend of artists"), dated. Paris, October 13, 1949.Next to the second dedication, signed Stanley Barry, dated. Paris, October 13, 1949, also to Mr. Cuillette, in French, to commemorate the staging of the Polish ballet in 1940. Issued in an edition of 400 pieces numbered and signed by the publisher, the offered piece bears the number 63 and bears the handwritten signature of C. Szwedzicki. The portfolio contains 40 engravings colored in gouache and watercolor, with depictions of Polish folk costumes from the areas of the Second Polish Republic, including Cracovian, Lowicz, Vilnius, Hutsul, Highlander and Kashubian. The 20 boards show figures from each region, depicted in Zofia Stryjeńska's typical dynamic manner, stopped in motion and full of color. The remaining 20 boards present details of costumes and other variations of them. The author of the portfolio is Zofia Stryjeńska (1891-1976), one of the most popular artists of the interwar period, a leading representative of the Art Déco style in Polish art. The charts were made in the typical pochoir technique - printed outlines, hand-painted with gouache and watercolor through a stencil - making it possible to obtain a series of many almost identical engravings. Striking compositions, showcasing the artist's mature style, while documenting the richness of folk costumes of the former Republic. Plates preceded by an introduction in English and French, with a description of all costumes, written by Tadeusz Seweryn (1894-1975), director of the Ethnographic Museum in Cracow. Slight paper loss of the last page of the introduction, condition of the portfolio and boards good to very good. Rare in the set.

Letter: Zofia Stryjeńska. 1891 - 1976. exhibition at the National Museum in Cracow. October 2008 - January 2009, Cracow 2008; item V.I.4, p. 359
