ink, paper, size 19 x 15, 5 cm in light passe- partout, signed p. d. "Pruszkowski"
Ink sketch depicting the figure of a peasant in a dress robe, shown in full ¾ shot, in festive Krakow attire, with a wide leather belt cinching his figure. The author, Witold Pruszkowski (1846 - 1896), was a thoroughly educated artist in Munich, permanently associated with the Krakow artistic community. He is known mainly for his symbolist and historical compositions, but the folk theme was no stranger to him. A decoration made in 1876 in the chapel of the Cistercian church in Mogilno, where the Mother of God receives homage from all states, confirms his interest in folk culture.
