From the introduction: "The examples collected are intended to be a graphic description of the accidents of the moment, - therefore, they do not give a view of the development and systematic totality of the progress of science. They show, however, the strength of the sensitivity of the young soul at the bottom of which the accidents of the present war were sharply outlined."
