Graphic artist, painter; representative of Post-Impressionism; studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow (with F. Cynk and J. Pankiewicz), at the Academié Colarossi in Paris and Leipzig; founded his own graphic arts school in Paris in 1917; traveled extensively, including. to Italy, Holland and Spain, as well as Brittany, Normandy and southern France; in 1924 he returned to Cracow, taught at Ludwika Mehoffer's Free School of Painting and Drawing; was a member of the Society of Polish Artists "Sztuka", was one of the founders of "Jednorog" (1925), also exhibited with the Formists; died in the Auschwitz concentration camp.
His work shows the influence of J. Pankiewicz and the French painter P. Cezanne (1839-1906); from about 1908 he practiced printmaking (mainly etching, aquatint and lithography), depicting subtle and atmospheric landscapes and cityscapes; he also created woodcuts; he also used the oil technique, painting still lifes, portraits and seascapes.
