Felicjan Szczęsny Kowarski (born September 8, 1890 in Starosielce, died September 22, 1948 in Konstancin) - Polish painter, sculptor, educator. In 1902-1908 he studied painting at the Odessa Art School of the Society of Fine Arts, then studied painting at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg (1910-1918). In 1919, he worked at Wladyslaw Glowchevsky's lithographic workshop in Warsaw. In the spring of 1920, after moving to Toruń, together with Henryk Szczygliński and Henryk Nowina-Czerny, they founded the Graphic Works "Sztuka", which operated until 1923[1]. In 1923-1929 he was a professor of decorative and monumental painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, and from 1930 he was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. A member of the art groups Jednoróg, Pryzmat and Rytm. A feature of Kowarski's painting is monumentalism of form. In addition to easel painting, he did mural painting, including a set of plafonds at Wawel Castle. Toward the end of his life, he also engaged in sculpture. Art critics see in Kowarski's painting the influence of the Russian group World of Art. In 1929 he made the painting decoration of the plafonds in the Pod Ptakami room of Wawel Castle in Cracow. Together with Jan S. Sokolowski, he was awarded first prize in the competition of the Institute of Art Propaganda in Warsaw for his designs for the polychrome interior of the cathedral in Chelm.During the German occupation he stayed in Skierniewice. In the post-war period, he continued teaching at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. Maintaining his individual style of painting, he created several paintings on social and political themes, such as "Proletariats" (1948, in the collection of the Warsaw National Museum). He died in Konstancin. He was buried at the Powązki Cemetery in Warsaw (Alley of the Deserved-1-33)
