Jan Czeslaw MONIUSZKO
1853 Vilnius - 1908 Warsaw
Son of the composer Stanislaw. Since 1871 he studied painting at the Warsaw Drawing Class under Wojciech Gerson and Antoni Kaminski, and privately under Gerson and B. Dziadulewicz. In 1878 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg. He painted genre, historical, historical-royal and religious scenes. His works are distinguished by good composition, colorfulness, a sense of mood and style of historical eras, with the Stanislav times being the closest to him. In1879, at an exhibition in Warsaw's Zachęta Gallery, he attracted critical attention with his painting The First Meeting of Jadwiga with Jagiello. He exhibited many times at Zachęta, the Krywult Salon, the Ungra Salon and the Art Salon where an exhibition of his works was held in 1905. He also exhibited in Cracow, Lodz and Kiev.
