Jan Czeslaw Moniuszko (Vilnius 1853 - Warsaw 1908) - son of composer Stanislaw - from 1871 studied painting at the Warsaw Drawing Class under Wojciech Gerson and Antoni Kaminski, and privately under Gerson and B.Dziadulewicz. In 1878 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg. Since 1880 he lived and worked in Warsaw permanently. He painted genre scenes, historical, historical-native and religious scenes. His works are distinguished by good composition, colorfulness, a sense of mood and style of historical eras, with the Stanislawski era being the closest to him. He made his debut in 1879 at an exhibition in Warsaw's Zachęta Gallery, attracting critical attention with his painting The First Meeting of Jadwiga with Jagiello. Later he exhibited many more times at Zachęta, the Krywult Salon, the Ungra Salon and the Artistic Salon where a group exhibition of his works (about 50 paintings) was held in 1905. He also exhibited in Cracow, Lodz and Kiev.
