Depicts the king of the chancer in bust, in national costume. Photo pasted on cardboard backing. On the back, stamp: "Jllustration Bureau of Marek Münz in Lviv" and identifying pencil inscription: "King of the Chancery Michał Olszewski". Stains on the right margin, photo slightly cropped, otherwise good condition overall.
M. Münz (Max) a.k.a. Markus Mordche (1878-1937) - "in 1925-1928, together with Samuel Nick, ran a photographic atelier at 32 Batory Street (Kniazia Roman); in 1904-1908, atelier 'Elwira' at Kopernika Street. In 1910. Münz opened his own atelier at 15 Jagiellońska Street (Hnatiuka), which he ran until the end of his life (in 1937 the atelier passed to his widow Aurelia). At the same time, Münz took part in other enterprises or founded new ones. Thus, between 1912 and 1914, the Artistic-Cyncographic Company 'Marek Münz and Company' functioned at 12 Batory Street; between 1921 and 1924, Münz headed the photographic atelier of the late S. Klaften at 11 Jagiellońska Street; in 1927, in partnership with his former colleague S. Nick, he ran the 'Mimoza' atelier at 35 Karol Ludwig St. In the same year he opened another photo atelier of his own, 'Diana', in the shopping center at 34 Leon Sapieha St. (S. Bandery St.). M. Münz was the author of numerous photographs with views of Lviv, and often printed his works in Lviv magazines." (biography after: I. Kotlobulatova "Lviv in photography 1860-2006". Lviv 2008, p. 304).
