Biography
Tadeusz Styka came from a well-known family of artists - his father Jan and brother Adam were painters. He received his first drawing and painting lessons in his father's studio. Then he studied, starting in 1900, with J.-J. Henner and E. Carriere` in Paris. There he also lived and had his own painting studio. In 1929 he moved to New York, but still retained his Paris studio. From an early age, he exhibited his works at Paris salons and galleries, as well as in Poland, Canada and the United States. He was a renowned portraitist; he painted well-known personalities from the world of art, science, politics and aristocratic circles, including portraits of L. Tolstoy, I. Paderewski, M. Maeterlinck, S. D. Roosevelt, Pola Negri, W. Anders, C. Flammarion. He also painted portraits, genre scenes and occasionally religious compositions.
