Stroobant studied painting at the Brussels Academy, in the studios of François Joseph Navez (1787-1869) and Paul Lauters (1806-1875). From the beginning he was fascinated by painting vedutas. In search of interesting city views, he traveled extensively throughout Europe. He visited Germany and Poland, among others. From 1850 he no longer left Belgium, concentrating on painting vedutas of Brussels, Bruges and other Belgian cities. Stroobant's paintings are characterized by meticulous elaboration of architectural elements and strong contrasts in parts of light and shadow, bearing the hallmarks of experience in lithographic work. In 1865 Stroobant was appointed director of the Molenbeek Saint-Jean Academy in Brussels, while in 1878 he was honored with the title of Officer of the Order of Leopold. His paintings are in collections in Brussels and Budapest, while Krakow has examples of his lithographic work.
