78.5 x 99.5cm - oil, canvas signed p.d.: Ruśkiewicz | 1863
Franciszek Ruśkiewicz (Warsaw 1819 - Warsaw 1883) worked as a clerk at the Bank of Poland in Warsaw, but his passion was painting. Around 1840 he studied with Aleksander Kokular in Warsaw, but was essentially self-taught. He painted mainly landscapes, which testify to his frequent travels around the country - he visited the vicinity of Krakow, Sandomierz, Klimontow, Ojców, went to the Pieniny and Tatra Mountains. In 1855-1867 he showed his paintings in exhibitions at the Cracow Society of Friends of Fine Arts, and in 1860-1883 also at the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts in Warsaw. The artist's works are in the National Museum in Warsaw, the National and Historical Museum in Cracow and the Museum in Wloclawek.
