PAINTINGS OF HIGH ARTISTIC MASTERY
The artist works primarily in the noble and demanding medium of oil painting. His paintings are distinguished by excellent technical skill, a superb sense of color, and extraordinary freedom in handling the paint.
Pieczyński uses both a brush and a palette knife. He builds the surface of the painting using:
* energetic brushstrokes, * decisive smudges, * bold color combinations, * thicker layers of paint, * and an expressive, at times almost relief-like texture.
Professor Walenty Wróblewski, who supervised the artist’s thesis studio, highlighted his spontaneous, expressive style, the richness of his paint application, and his exceptional “artistic intuition.”
The power of Pieczyński’s paintings stems from a combination of professional, academic training and authentic painterly emotion.
OSTY — THE ARTIST’S DISTINCTIVE SIGNATURE
Nature—landscapes, flowers, and wild vegetation—is at the center of Zbigniew Pieczyński’s interests. However, the artist does not treat it merely as decoration. For him, each motif becomes a starting point for exploring light, color, matter, power, and transience.
“Thistles” – a diptych
This energetic diptych depicting thistles captivates with its intense colors, expressive texture, and the freedom of the painter’s brushstrokes. The two small compositions form a cohesive whole, though each retains its own mood and distinct character.
The first work is rendered in warm, sunny tones. Violet and creamy-yellow flowers emerge from a rich background composed of greens, golden browns, and luminous highlights. The second composition is cooler and more subdued—delicate purples and powdery shades of the flowers contrast with the silvery gray of the background.
The artist applies paint boldly and dynamically. Visible, decisive brushstrokes and, in places, an almost impasto-like texture lend the plants a sense of depth and natural vitality. The thistles are not depicted as a modest element of the meadow, but as full-fledged protagonists of the painting—proud, resilient, and beautiful in their unconventional form.
The thistle motif may symbolize strength, independence, and the ability to survive even under difficult conditions. Its prickly form conceals a delicate, colorful flower, allowing the composition to also speak of the beauty hidden beneath apparent harshness.
The striking frame plays a special role. The intensely purple, geometrically contoured frame echoes the color of the flowers, while the wide green and black inner border creates depth and clearly highlights both works. The whole piece has a modern, bold, and highly decorative character.
It is a cheerful, colorful composition that combines inspiration from nature with a contemporary presentation style. The diptych will brilliantly enliven any interior, drawing attention with both its expressive painting and its unique framing.
