ZbigniewMakowski was born in 1930 in Warsaw. Between 1950 and 1956, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under Prof. Kazimierz Tomorowicz. In the 1960s he met André Breton and the Surrealist milieu in Paris, with whom he felt connected. In 1973, he received the Cyprian Kamil Norwid Art Criticism Award, and in 1992 he was honored with the Jan Cybis Award. His composition Mirabilitas secundum diversos modos exire potest a rebus was donated by the Polish government to the Geneva headquarters of the United Nations.
