Franciszek Walczowski (1902-1983) was a painter, art conservator and lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. He was also involved in theater stage design. His passion was anthroposophy. He attempted to artistically resurrect the prehistory of the Slavs, creating painterly visions that referred to native myths and legends. Today he is popular among lovers of Slavic mythology, neo-pagans, and is sometimes called the "Polish Tolkien." The Ethnographic Museum in Cracow has 705 paintings, drawings and sketches by Walczowski.
