Urbanowicz was one of the members of the so-called "Nowa Huta Group," often referred to in the past as the "Group of Five." Together with his friends Julian Jończyk, Janusz Tarabuła, Jerzy Wronski and Danuta Urbanowicz, they exhibited together in the premises of KMPiK in Nowa Huta since 1956. It was they who co-created one of the most interesting phenomena of postwar art - matter painting.
