Artist of the Viennese Art Nouveau. Comes from Karlsbad (Karlovy Vary) in Bohemia. Studied at the Academy of Arts in Prague and the School of Arts and Crafts in Vienna. Artisan, puppeteer, member of the Wiener Werkstätte. In the environment of Gustav Klimt, spent summer vacations at Lake Attersee. Inspired by Javanese puppet theater, fairy tales and legends, he created oil paintings and graphics also stick puppets and stage decorations with fantastical motifs and figure paintings such as the rowers.

Born and raised in Bohemia, Richard Teschner first studied at the Art Academy in Prague and later at the Vienna School of Applied Arts. After moving to Vienna, he joined the Wiener Werkstätte. From 1910 on, like Gustav Klimt, he belonged to a group of artists and creatives who were regular guests of the k. u. k. (“imperial and royal”, referring to the Habsburgs dual monarchy Austria-Hungary) court carpenter Friedrich Paulick. The group spent their summer holidays in Paulicks villa at lake Attersee. There Teschner met the host's daughter, Emma Paulick, whom he married in 1911. This advantageous marriage gave him financial independence. Inspired by the Javanese stick puppet theater, he subsequently turned to painting and graphics as well as puppetry and designed his own stick puppets and proscenium stages. His paintings and graphics are influenced, among other things, by elements from Asian culture as well as fairy tales and legends.
