Austrian artist who studied at the School of Applied Arts in Vienna and at the Academy of Arts in Munich. From 1906 in Dachau and from 1908 again in Vienna, member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus and exhibited in the Munich Glaspalast with the artists' association "Luitpoltgruppe". Corresponding member of the Parisian artists' association "La Tendance Nouvell". Nephew of Alois Raimund Hein. Lived in Vienna and in Unterach at Lake Attersee, passion for landscape painting and sailing. Created naturalistic landscapes, natural atmospheres such as lake and seascapes, sunsets, boats, lighthouses.


The Viennese painter Oswald Grill studied painting with Karl Karger at the Vienna School of Applied Arts and continued his studies in Munich with Carl von Marr and Alexander von Wagner at the Art Academy. From 1906 on he worked as a freelance artist in Dachau before settling back in Vienna shortly afterwards. There he became a member of the Wiener Künstlerhaus in 1908 and served from 1917 to 1938 as Vice President and President of the Central Association of Austrian Artists. In 1929 he was appointed professor.
In his work, landscape paintings and portraits in a naturalistic conception and a bright and clear mood of nature predominate. His works have been exhibited in the Munich Glass Palace and the Vienna Künstlerhaus, among others. Oswald Grill has received numerous honors, including the Golden Medal of Honor of the Republic of Austria, the Small Golden State Medal and the Golden Laurel of the Vienna Künstlerhaus.
