Krzysztof Zarębski (Warsaw 1939, lives in New York since 1981) - performer, painter, sculptor, set designer. In 1962-1968 he studied at the Faculty of Painting and Graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (in the studios of Prof. Jan Wodyński and Prof. Stefan Gierowski). In 1968, he received a diploma with distinction. From the beginning, Zarębski has consistently touched on themes of transience, memory and eroticism. Initially, right after graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts, he painted sensual, poetic paintings with saturated colors, belonging to the new figuration. In them, he often juxtaposed objects or figurative forms with abstract ones. Slowly, however, he "went beyond" the plane of his paintings, hanging color filters in front of them to change the color scheme of his works. Since the early 1970s, the artist became interested in artistic actions - the art of performance and happening, and became a forerunner of performance art in Poland.
