Biography
Sculptor, painter, creator of spatial compositions. Studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing (1950-1955) and then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where he received his diploma in the studio of A. Kobzdej in 1962. He practiced art on the borderline of painting sculpture and textiles. He created series, the most famous being "Totems", "Epitaphs" , "Sarcophagi" and "Portraits." The first paintings-reliefs from the series "Epitaphs" were created in 1970.These are framed, as if frozen, everyday objects: shirts, jackets, coats, covered with uniform paint - initially white, later black . The profound symbolism of these works is contained in the idea of creating a new existence for things no longer needed from the immediate environment and everyday life of man, things often rejected, to which the artist gives a new dimension of existence. In 1977 Lukomski was Poland's representative at the Sao Paulo Biennale. Two years later he was awarded the C. K. Norwid Art Criticism Award. Literature on his work is included in the catalog of a monographic exhibition shown in 1996 by, among others, the Polish Sculpture Center in Oronsko.
