Court spade, Europe, 1st half of 19th century.

Spade length 1130 mm, head length 875 mm, spade weight 465 g

Closed hand, brass frame, gilded. Shield-cocked yoke. Oval shields, the inner one smaller, mounted on hinges. Shank spindly, densely wrapped with filigree. Spherical head, with a mushroom-shaped nut, attaching the whole to the headstock. The back arm of the hilt, the bail at the head and the head decorated with a floral motif. Head narrow, steel, polished, triple-grooved. Outer amphibian with concave cut. Wider inner amphibian with a groove along its entire length. On the inner sill an illegible signature.
