The M1913 Model 1913Cavalry Saber, commonly known as the Patton Saber, is an American cavalry saber (popularly but erroneously called a saber). Designed in 1913 by Lieutenant (later General) George Patton.
Patton's scabbard did not fulfill its role as a combat weapon. At the beginning of the United States' involvement in World War I, several U.S. cavalry units armed with Patton's scabbards were sent to the front, but were stopped by rifle and machine gun fire before reaching the German trenches. Just before the outbreak of World War II, a decision was made to place most of Patton's batons in military storage and use them exclusively as parade weapons. Some of the scabbards were cut into pieces and made into combat knives for soldiers and partisans in occupied countries - the supply of knives to the partisans was handled by the Office of Strategic Services (OSS).
The saber is preserved in excellent condition. Original oxidation on the head. Signatures visible in the photos.
Length : 108 cm ( significant length of the saber because it was to be used for stabbing, stabbing the enemy from the horse).
