Biography
Attended the State Industrial School in Lviv for a course in decorative painting, where he studied with Roman Bratkowski, Stanislaw Rejchan and Tadeusz Rybkowski. He then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in the studios of Jozef Mehoffer and Teodor Axentowicz (1898-1906). In 1903-04 he studied in Munich. He most often painted in watercolor, but also used sepia and ink. Holzmüller's favorite subjects were landscapes and genre scenes with a horse motif. He became famous as a painter who made battle sketches featuring Japanese horsemen in action; one watercolor with this theme was placed in an officer's casino in Tokyo.
