Began his studies in 1937 at the Institute of Fine Arts in Cracow, Graphic Arts Department, under the direction of Andrzej Jurkiewicz and Władysław Jarocki. During the occupation, he continued his studies at the Kunstgewerbeschule (until 1942). After the war, in 1945-48, he continued his studies at the Faculty of Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under Eugeniusz Eibisch and Zbigniew Pronaszko. One of the most significant Polish wood engravers and illustrators. The 1960s saw the creation of his most famous woodcut series: Self-Portraits, Mad Women, Shepherds, Shepherdesses, Kites, Ensigns and Józef Gielniak's Attempted Portraits - synthetic, gently primitive graphic notes. Oil self-portraits were shown at the exhibition Poles Self-Portrait in 1979. In 1983, the last woodcuts are created. Many times exhibited and awarded - Gold Medal at the International Triennial of Printmaking in New Delhi 1971, Jan Cybis Award 1988. Works in museum collections in Poland, USA, Japan, Great Britain and also in private collections around the world.
