signed l. g. corner: 'H. Kotewicz'
Poznan painter. She received her artistic education at the State Higher School of Fine Arts (now UA) in Poznań - drawing and painting studio, and at the Social Art College in Warsaw - diploma in interior design.
She creates surreal, fairy-tale and intimate works. The artist is an observer of everyday life, from which she draws inspiration by telling about what is close to every human being. Emotions such as safety, trust or going home with a friend on a dark night become the subjects of her works. However, she approaches reality with humor and distance, treating everyday life with a wink and sarcasm. A frequent motif appearing on Hanna Kotewicz's canvases are ladies, dressed in Baroque stylized dresses, combed in high fancy hairstyles. Crinolines sometimes frame the ladies' companions - men and cats. The huge gowns are also a secret, a place where a woman can hide her secrets.
It is important to carefully observe Hanna Kotewicz's works, which are rich in detail, often crucial in the perception of the work. An important detail is the clothing of the feline companions, who have masculine attributes - bow ties, checkered sweaters and headgear. As the artist admits, men are often hidden under the figure of smiling cats.
The artist's works are extremely painterly, with decorative elements, rich textures, which give Hanna Kotewicz's paintings a unique and warm atmosphere.
