oil, cardboard, dimensions 33 x 49 cm, signed p. d. "W.Kore." (author's signature partially cut off)
Viktor Koretsky (1890 - 1980) was an artist born in Kamieniec Podolski and educated in Kiev. He studied at the Drawing School of Alexander Murashka. After returning to Poland, he settled in Warsaw and later in Milanowek. He was an unparalleled landscape painter resisting fashions and new trends in painting, faithful to moody, intimate realist painting. His Warsaw studio, along with his works, was burned down in the Warsaw Uprising and his pre-war output is rarely displayed. All the more interesting is the offered summer landscape by him, dating from his early work, painted in a post-impressionist manner, light and impressionistic. The partial truncation of the signature leaves no doubt as to the work's authorship, though it is certainly regrettable. The striking frame somewhat compensates for this condition of the painting.
