Georg Fischhof first studied architecture, but later devoted himself to painting and studied at the Vienna School of Applied Arts and in Munich. His typical motifs include Dutch coastal and harbor views, Italian coastal landscapes and rural scenes with a stream or path. Almost every work features sketches of people or children with only facial features marked, often a column of smoke from a chimney and seagulls in flight in seascapes, and umbrella acacias and cypress trees in Italian views.
He used various pseudonyms, including : J. Claiton, A. Ducat, Johann Ducat, Fabre, L. Fabretto, C. Leutner, Rosini, K. Schwartz, A.L. Terni, J. Tomann, E. Trassi, John Wagner, J. Wagner, Joh Wagner, H. Wagner, Th. Wagner.
