Biography
Stawinski was associated with the environment of the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under professors: Władysław Jarocki, Teodor Axentowicz, Fryderyk Pautsch, Wojciech Weiss (1928-1934). He was a co-founder of the 1st Cracow Group, a group with avant-garde aspirations and leftist views, which included Jonasz Stern, Maria Jarema, Sasha Blonder, among others. He took part in the group's exhibitions held in Lviv (1933), Krzemieniec (1934) Krakow (1935). During the war he lived in Krzemieniec, then, like many repatriates, settled in the Western Territories (in Bytom). In 1949 he began working at the Katowice Branch of the State School of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, where he led the Evening Drawing Studio. In 1956, he received the title of associate professor, and retired in 1959. His paintings focus on color, with an occasional inclination toward surrealism. His works can be found in the collections of the National Museum in Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan, Wroclaw and many other district museums.
