Issue 1. From the book collection of Stanislaw Filibert Fleury (1858-1915), an accomplished photographer and painter, an important figure in the artistic circles of Vilnius, collector of books, maps and engravings (hand-painted ex-libris, stamps). A precursor work dedicated to the folk decorative arts of the Tatras and Podhale, as well as the culture and everyday life of the highlanders. It covers the artwork and ornamentation of the highlanders (architectural details, furniture, utensils, tools, knives, spoons, dishes, hardware, oscypek molds, pins and jewelry, leather belts, elements of costumes, vehicles, musical instruments, muzak and others). The interiors of highlander huts with their furnishings, agricultural tools and costumes are also presented. The work (only in this edition) includes an extensive biography of the author, W. Matlakowski (1850-1895), a physician and ethnographer, lover of Podhale, among the most prominent figures in the scientific and artistic community of Zakopane. Period binding in broad fawn, 6-panel spine, with scrolls and gilt title. Western booklet cover depicting the image of Sabała (edges reinforced with paper). Minor soiling of the binding, otherwise good condition.
