Edition 1 of an anonymous work, written "in the heat of the moment" during the Rus.-Persian conflict of 1722-1723, in which Russia allied with Georgia and the Armenians led to war with Persia, from where, as from Turkey, the threat of Muslim expansion flowed. The book contains detailed descriptions of the vast region along the Volga and around the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus, especially Georgia, where the powers of the time clashed, as well as a characterization, full of interesting facts, of the states of the Tsar, Sultan and Shah, namely Russia, Turkey and Persia, and a description of the course of the war itself. The text is enriched by four engravings with a portrait of the Sultan (frontispiece), the costumes of the Caucasian people and views of Derbent and Shemakha. Few known pieces have from 4 to 5 engravings, the offered piece contains 4 (there is no view of Baku, perhaps it was only included in the 1724 edition), on the back a trace of removal of the provenance mark?, slight rubbing of the edges of the binding, otherwise very good condition. Rare!
