"Everyday Life in Brazil during the reign of Pedro II 1831-1889" is another book from the famous PEN series about the daily life of people of different historical periods, different places and civilizations. Here we have Brazil during the reign of Emperor Peter II. This was a period when Brazil was already independent, but still needed many reforms and changes. Slavery still existed, while the disparity between the great cities of the coast and the villages of the interior was appalling. The book mainly contains a description of life in Rio de Janeiro, which the author writes about already in the introduction.
