The book, published by the Publishing House of the Union of Counties of the Republic of Poland, was created by the tourist and summer resort paper of the Union of Counties of the R. P. in Stanislawow.
From the introduction: "The descriptive part, relating to the Hutsuls, their life, customs, rituals, culture and civilization, is given as a separate whole, in separate fonts *cursive*. It should be read separately. On the odd pages a description of the Hutsul region is given, divided into districts, and within them into individual villages, as well as strict, practical information that will be of interest to anyone who, looking for a place of rest, wishes to go to these parts for the summer."
The Hutsuls are Ukrainian-Volyn highlanders living in the Eastern Carpathians in Ukraine and Romania. The beauty of the Hutsul region and the customs of the local highlanders were extensively described as early as the beginning of the 19th century, but a particular fashion for this subject came at the turn of the 20th century and during the interwar period. At that time, prominent members of the artistic community went on tourist and artistic expeditions, the fruits of which were magnificent works such as pastels by Leon Wyczółkowski, paintings by Teodor Axentowicz and works by Władysław Skoczylas.
