IRVING Washington - Rip Van Winkle (with illustrations by Jan Marcin SZANCER), first Polish edition

Rip Van Winkle is a short story by Washington Irving written in 1819. The title character, put to sleep by ghosts in the Catskill Mountains (upstate New York) during colonial times, awakens 20 years later in the independent United States. It was translated into Polish by Wacława Komarnicka and was included in the 1966 collection Rip Van Winkle and Other Stories with illustrations by Jan Marcin Szancer, published by "Nasz Księgarnia" (2nd edition 1971; 3rd edition 1992, "Votum" publishing house).

The story has been screened many times. The first, in 1896, was a series of eight scenes of several dozen seconds, from which a film lasting four minutes was edited in 1903. Subsequent screen adaptations under the unchanged title were made in: 1912, 1914, 1921, 1958 and 1978 (animated film).
